September 6th - Blood Moon

Blood moon, another name for a total lunar eclipse, so named for the deep red color the moon takes on when it is entirely in the earth's shadow. 

Lunar eclipses are often about shadows. During a total lunar eclipse, we are confronted with the mass that is the earth as it casts a blood red pall over our orbiting neighbor. Of course the moon couldn't care less... she still exists, unperturbed. Whether or not the sun shines on her, she still is. But from earth, the loss of light gives us the opportunity to work with and in the shadow. 

So this month, we'll honor all those who are resisting in the shadows. We'll harness the soon to be cloaked energy of the blood moon and offer it to all those who are resisting from within. If they want it, if it serves them, we'll offer up support and protection. For every National Guard member who is thinking about refusing orders. For every southern housewife who sends her Planned Parenthood donation in cash, from the post office so her husband doesn't find out. For every government employee who is resisting pressure to resign, or who is readying to whistle blow. For anyone who needs a little extra shadow for their work. 

If you have specific people in your life who are doing this work we'll add them to our altar. We may not yet be in critical positions ourselves, but until then, we can stand with those who are.
